The New Testament Worshipper

The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.  Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.
 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.  Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. 
 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 
 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. ~ John 4:19-24

Verse 23 marks the difference between Old Testament worship and New Testament worship.  This scripture was the turning point. Jesus was referring here to the church age, the dispensation of the Holy Ghost.  Only a New Testament worshipper can worship in Spirit and in truth.  Being a New Testament worshipper is not just being something on the outside but, doing something on the inside.  They say, "I just worship God in my own quiet way." But that isn't right either.  We need to put on the outside what is on the inside!

If we are going to be true New Testament worshippers, we must have fellowship with God.  Not just a relationship, but fellowship.  Not just knowing about Him; but really knowing Him.

If you are going to be a true New Testament worshipper, you have to get to know God and learn to be led by the Spirit of God.  You will find then that it isn't hard to spend time in God's presence.  It's wonderful when you really get to know Him!  You can learn how He speaks and what He likes, and you can begin to know about His character.  How do you get to know Him that way?  By learning His Word and fellowshipping with Him.  Not one or the other --- both!

You can actually minister to the Lord.  That may sound strange to some people.  You might even say, "I thought the Lord was supposed to minister to us."  He does minister to us, but we can minister to Him also.  Acts 13:2 says:  As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted the Holy Ghost said...

There are times when we should get apart from everything else and just minister to the Lord, especially if we need Him to speak to us in a certain area of our lives.  According to this Scripture verse, that's the kind of atmosphere in which He speaks.  Did you notice that?  Again, it says, As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said...  After they had ministered to Him, then He spoke to them! As New Testament believers, we are privileged to have the Spirit of God dwelling on the inside of us.  He is our Teacher, our Guide, our Helper; and He is living inside us!
 It is easy for us to be led by our spirit if we take time to get to know Him.  There are no formulas today like there were under the Old Covenant.  We don't do things by ritual or form the way they did then.  Again, in John 4:23,24 Jesus said, 

 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 
 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
